Grass
Immediately after we started playing Animal Crossing CityFolk/Let's Go to the City we were shocked that the grass wears out in town. We were running throughout the town selling fruit to get our houses paid off when we noticed the ground get browner on the places traveled most. At first we though it was cool until the entire town started turning brown. Animal Crossing fans were all abuzz on the internet, frustrated that their towns were turning brown!
Through experimentation we found ways to reclaim the once fertile land. haha We'll list the tips here.
You can lay paths on the ground
If you want to preserve your grass in the frist place, or let new grass grow, put down patterns to make paths to walk on to the most traveled places in town. You can put paths to places like Nooks, your house, villagers houses and anywere else you don't mind the grass disappearing. Animal Crossing fans started getting creative with sidewalks patterns and cool pictures to display on the ground. Still it is a pain because we are constantly picking up patterns by accident. You must stop walking on any area you want to grow grass.
We got desperate once and made a fake snow pattern to cover the barren ground.
You can cover the brown area with flowers
To speed up the process of growing grass, place patches of flowers in the area. It may take a few weeks to fully recover.

Technical Grass Growing Tips
Grass-growing season
When the grass is green, it is possible to grow some grass, but only if flowers or trees are on the grass. If you do not have a flower on a space or next to a space, the rate of growth is too slow to withstand you walking on it. In a space next to a flower, the rate is very slow, but you will eventually fill the space with grass. In a space with a flower on it, the grass will grow nearly twice as quickly. And walking on a space decreases the grass by speed 1, so it cancels out the growth on no flower spaces.
| Space Status | Growth Speed |
|---|---|
| Not near flower | SPEED 1 |
| Next to flower | SPEED 2 |
| Flower on space | SPEED 3 |
| Grass decrease rate | SPEED 1 |
Subtract the grass decrease rate from the growth rate to see how much growth you get. A negative number means the grass is decreasing, a zero means it is being maintained, and a positive number means it is growing.
Non-growth season
During the fall and winter months, almost no grass growth is possible. The grass/snow grows more slowly and decreases more quickly. The grass does not grow at all without a flower on the space. If you can keep from walking on a flower space, a very small bit will grow, but if you walk over it, it disappears. At least the flowers help to maintain your grass a little bit.
| Space Status | Growth Speed |
|---|---|
| Not near flower | SPEED 0 |
| Next to flower | SPEED 0 |
| Flower on space | SPEED 1 |
| Grass decrease rate | SPEED 1 |
Subtract the grass decrease rate from the growth rate to see how much growth you get. A negative number means the grass is decreasing, a zero means it is being maintained, and a positive number means it is growing.
