Tools
Tools are essential to AC life. Without tools you could not make bells very easily--or live a happy life at all!
Standard Tools
These ought to be the very first things you buy in the game, because they are extremely necessary. You can then use your tools to get the silver and golden tools. Here are the six basic tools:
- Shovel: digging fossils, furniture, gyroids, tree stumps; burying things, planting fruit trees
- Fishing rod: catching fish
- Net: catching insects
- Axe: cutting down trees
- Watering can: watering plants and trees
- Slingshot: shooting presents out of the sky
Silver Tools
In addition to the tools you are familiar with, you can also earn silver tools. These make your daily activities slightly easier.
Silver Shovel
The silver shovel is found in the city by visiting Resetti's Surveillance Center. Resetti can be found in the very far bottom right corner of the city. You will see some construction cones there.
Keep in mind he only is open after 8:00pm on random days, so only if you're lucky can you visit him. The silver shovel will increase your chance of getting more bells when you hit rocks with your shovel.
Silver Fishing Rod
The silver fishing rod can be purchased from Tom Nook. He will offer the silver fishing rod when his store upgrades to Nook Way (level 2). Fish are more attracted to the new bait that the silver fishing rod has.
Silver Net
Like the silver fishing rod, the silver net is available to purchase from Tom Nook after he upgrades to Nookway (level 2). This net is bigger than the standard one making it very simple to catch those fast bugs.
Silver Axe
Getting the silver axe is relatively simple (compared to the GameCube version), but may take a very long time, depending on your luck. Here is what you need to do:
- Donate 500,000 bells to the town fund to get a fountain for your town.
- Then throw a normal axe in the fountain for a chance to see a character named Serena. She might give you either a silver axe (never brakes) or a golden axe (never breaks and cuts faster).
Silver Watering Can
After you have bought 50 bags of flowers from Nook's you will get the silver can in the mail.
Silver Slingshot
After Nook upgrades to Nookway, he will offer silver slingshots.
Golden Tools
If you are really dedicated to playing Animal Crossing you will want to get these items! They will make your tasks way easier.
Golden Shovel
The
golden shovel allows you to bury bells which will turn into bell
trees. Then you can shake the bell bags off the tree. To get the
golden shovel, you need to have two shovels.
Bury one of the shovels (now do you see why you need two?) and
wait 4 days. Then dig in that same spot and voila, you have a
golden shovel!
Golden Fishing Rod
The golden fishing rod attracts more fish. Unfortunately, this one is hard to get. You must catch every fish to get this item!
Golden Net
The golden net is way bigger than the
original net, making it easier to catch insects. Possibly making it easier to catch those pesky bees!
Just like the golden fishing rod, you must catch every insect in
the game.
Golden Axe
Unlike in Animal Crossing GameCube, getting the silver and golden axes is pretty simple. At least it sounds simple. You can get the golden axe by repeating the process you used to get the silver axe.
Here is what you need to do:
- Donate 500,000 bells to the town fund to get a fountain for your town.
- Then throw a normal axe in the fountain for a chance to see a character named Serena. She might give you either a silver axe (never brakes) or a golden axe (never breaks and cuts faster).
Golden Watering Can
When you have kept your town in "perfect" condition, Pelly (at the town hall) will give you the Golden Watering Can.
Here is how to keep your town "perfect":
- You must have 12-15 trees and 6-10 flowers in every "acre." (I know--City Folk does not call them acres anymore.) An acre is a 16 x 16 square area. The Prima official guide suggests digging holes, 16 across and 16 down to measure this out.
- Once you have measured out an acre, plant or chop down/pull trees and flowers until you have the right amount (again--12-15 fully grown trees, 6-10 flowers).
- Then, once you have the correct amounts, you must keep your entire town weed-free for 15 days.
Golden Slingshot
Once you have successfully shot 8 balloons, you will get a balloon soon with the golden slingshot. This one has 3 bullets.
Comparing watering cans
These photos show differences in fishing rods and watering cans. Shown left to right are gold, silver, and regular.
